Andrea Schmidt lives and works as a publisher, typographer and teacher in Berlin. Since 2005 she has been running the „Verlagshaus Berlin“ together with Johannes Frank and Dominik Ziller – an independent press for contemporary poetry and illustration.

She holds lectures and workshops in the field of intercultural design and teaches typography and design theory as a lecturer and guest professor among others at the FH Potsdam, the UdK Berlin and the CAA Hangzhou (China). As co-editor, she has published the books typoversity 1 (NBVD, Hamburg 2011) and typoversity 2 (NBVD, Hamburg 2013), awarded by the European Design Award (Silver) and Type Directors Club New York.

She illustrated the books Die Erbärmlichkeit des Krieges. Gedichte und Briefe von Wilfred Owen (Verlagshaus Berlin 2014), awarded by Stiftung Buchkunst as one of the »Most Beautiful German Books 2015« and RUNEN by Alexander Graeff (SIC-Literaturverlag, Aachen 2015). In 2017 she was awarded with the „Arbeitsstipendium für Bildende Kunst der Kulturstiftung Rhein-Neckar-Kreis“. In her artistic work in the »AMPERSAND Interart« project, she stages her drawings with light and motion pictures for intermedia music and literature projects.
