Achim Kaufmann

Achim Kaufmann is a Berlin-based pianist using mixed techniques to create a fluctuating world of sounds and gestures. Before moving to Berlin, he lived in Amsterdam for 13 years where he became part of that city’s internationally renowned improvised music scene. Since 2002, he has been touring internationally with Kaufmann/Gratkowski/de Joode, an improvising trio which has released five CDs to much critical acclaim. Other working groups include grünen, SKEIN, duos with clarinetist Michael Moore and poet Gabriele Guenther, among many others.

He received the prestigious Albert Mangelsdorff award in 2015.
